  •  EYE EXAMINATION

Prior to the eye examination, you will be asked to complete a history of your pet's problems, including all medications that have been used. In addition, it is advisable to bring laboratory results and any other information relevant to your pet's condition. Always bring any medications that have been or are currently being used.

The first visit to Animal Eye Care will consist of a thorough eye examination. In some cases, additional diagnostic tests are necessary including measurement of tear production or intraocular pressure. Dilation of the pupil may be helpful to examine the lens and the back of the eye.

During the examination, the doctor will discuss recommendations for medical treatment and/or surgery for your pet. She will contact your veterinarian after your visit and send a record of the examination including diagnostic evaluations and treatment recommendations. In many cases, reexaminations are required to insure success of treatment. The ophthalmologist will work closely with your veterinarian to provide follow-up care. If a more extensive diagnostic work-up and/or surgery become necessary, you will be given a written estimate for the cost of such work at the time of examination.

We know that serious eye problems in your pet can be distressing and want you to feel comfortable with our staff and recommendations for therapy. Please feel free to ask questions before, during and after your pet's eye examination.

     CERF EXAMINATION

CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation) examinations are performed at the request of an owner, breeder or veterinarian to evaluate dogs for inherited eye diseases. The Canine Eye Registration Foundation was founded in an attempt to decrease the incidence of genetic eye conditions in purebred dogs. Dogs that are free of such eye disease are given a CERF number that appears on the AKC papers.
